The following ranges reflect current market rates for professional proofreading and editing services, as tracked by the Editorial Freelancers Association and EditorWorld. Martha's rates are set at the upper end of these ranges, consistent with her CMP certification and experience.

$0.05 – $0.10
General text at $0.05; specialized, academic, or STEM content up to $0.10 per word
Per Hour
$55 – $60
Upper range reflects certified professionals and complex or technical material
Per Page
$9 – $11
Based on a standard page of 250–300 words; higher end for dense or specialized content
What Affects Your Rate
Turnaround Time
Rush jobs and same-day delivery significantly increase the per-word or hourly cost. Standard turnaround is 3–5 business days.
Document Type
Heavy academic, technical, or STEM manuscripts cost more than general fiction or basic blog posts due to specialized vocabulary and citation requirements.
Scope of Work
Pure proofreading — catching surface-level typos, spelling, and grammar — is priced lower than copy editing, which involves style consistency and structural clarity.
